Warriors, join us in congratulating our March Members of the Month, John Sharlow and Kelsey Smith! We asked them to share a little bit about their time here at Mighty Warrior and we hope you enjoy their answers as much as we did!
What’s been your proudest moment at Mighty Warrior?
John: I don’t have a single proudest moment, but I would say I’m most proud of my commitment to health and fitness over the past 3 years. The MW family has helped tremendously with keeping me in check, and supporting my overall goal of health/fitness.
Kelsey: There have been so many awesome moments throughout my time at MWCF including many firsts. However, I have to say my proudest moment has been the journey as a whole including coming back to CrossFit after having my second child. I knew this was going to be a tough transition but I continue to find myself being motivated by the challenge. I continue to raise the bar for myself and keep my well-being and fitness a priority even in the chaos of everyday life.
What’s your favorite workout? (Can be a workout/movement/lift/etc…)
John: Dumbbell Snatch
Kelsey: Give me all the barbell work! I have always loved working with the barbell and have felt this is a strength of mine. What is interesting (and one of the many reasons I love CrossFit) is the more I improve on my weaknesses, the more I love a good cardio grind…who would have ever thought I would enjoy doing burpees!?
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
John: 1. Every workout is scalable and able to be configured for each member
2. Compete against yourself, don’t compare to others
3. Technique > Strength
4. Trust the process
Kelsey: You’ll never know unless you try. Although it can be super scary to come into an environment that is unknown or you have only heard about, you will never know until you give it a chance. CrossFit changes you. The community and support is just as awesome as the physical changes you will see. The challenges you will face will make you stronger both physically and mentally, translating into life making you a better version of yourself!
What’s a fun fact about you that most Warriors might not know?
John: I have a Taco Bell addiction
Kelsey: I played softball in college.
What’s the next goal you’re looking to achieve?
John: Sub 50 Min Murph/Sub 3 min Fran
Kelsey: I want to continue to improve each day by challenging myself, especially in those areas I need the most growth, use setbacks as learning opportunities, keep a positive attitude and encourage and support those around me to reach their goals!
Come one, come all. Is CrossFit really for everyone?
