Warriors, join us in congratulating our May Members of the Month, Jason Marentette and Jeannie Brott! We asked them to share a little bit about their time here at Mighty Warrior and we hope you enjoy their answers as much as we did!
What’s been your proudest moment at Mighty Warrior?
Jason: Finishing Annie Rx the first time. Last summer I made double-unders my main CrossFit goal. I worked on them just about every day for 3 months. That practice time was special to me because most of the time my kids were doing jump rope with me and keeping me from going crazy when I was tripping up. I went through 3 different ropes until I found the one I liked, my calves would cramp up all the time, and I had welts all over my arms from the rope hitting them. I’ll always remember finishing Annie last September when I was the last one to finish and everyone from my 6 am family was cheering me on.
Jeannie: FINALLY getting my first unassisted pull-up! (It was a year and a half in the making)
What’s your favorite workout? (Can be a workout/movement/lift/etc…)
Jason: People might think I’m crazy but I really like Fran. It’s over so quick that you barely have to pace or rest. And it’s a reminder to me of how far I’ve come in 2 years when I could barely do pull-ups with the gray band.
Jeannie: I love all the gymnastics movements and any workout with running in it. I love the challenge of Murph.
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
Jason: I would tell them that CrossFit is more than just a local gym membership. It truly is a community. Do you want to go to a gym where nobody knows your name or everybody knows your name? Do you want to have to program your own workouts or have a professional trainer do it? Do you want to work out one muscle at a time or work on functional movements that you’ll use the rest of your life? Those answers are easy and that’s why you should try CrossFit. And it’s a nice bonus that after two years of CrossFit I’m in the best shape of my life. I never thought I’d be able to do chest-to-bar pull-ups, toes-to-bar, or double-unders in my life.
Jeannie: Give it an honest try with an open mind. It’s such a welcoming and empowering community.
What’s a fun fact about you that most Warriors might not know?
Jason: Not sure if this sounds fun to most people but I can solve a rubix cube in under 5 minutes. Working on getting that much lower.
Jeannie: I won a sit-up contest once (when I was around 6 or 7 years old at my Dad’s Army picnic)
What’s the next goal you’re looking to achieve?
Jason: My goal is to be better tomorrow than I am today. I’m trying to do that not only by going to the gym 5-6 days a week but also by reading books, listening to podcasts, spending time with my family, eating right, and improving in my career. But getting a muscle-up would be nice too.
Jeannie: Currently, a strict pull-up, but always trying to get stronger and faster.
Come one, come all. Is CrossFit really for everyone?
